Chill Out At The Calgary Winterfest

By Arlie MacGregor   Trail Canada

Instead of cocooning indoors, come celebrate the very best that winter has to offer at the Calgary Winterfest. Running from February 9 - 19, 2007, there are events and activities for everyone. You'll never look at winter the same way again!

Winterfest Kick-off Party

Olympic Plaza is where all the fun starts with an outdoor concert and skating party. Weather permitting, live bands will have you tapping your toes while you twirl on ice under the stars. If needed, free skates and helmets are available from the Kidsport Skate Shack.

Multicultural Celebration

The Village Square Leisure Centre plays host to this colourful event. Spend the day immersed in rich, diverse ethnicity. Musicians, singers and dancers from two dozen groups will mentally whisk you away to another place and time. Afterwards, join other families in free skating, crafts, and a host of other activities geared for the 'kid' in all of us.

Seniors Follies at Heritage Park

To show our pride and appreciation for the people who have contributed so much to making Canada the wonderful country that it is, Winterfest features events at Heritage Park. Join us for an enjoyable afternoon at the nation's "largest living historical village". From musical entertainment to dining at the Wainwright Hotel, this is memories in the making.

Olympic Celebration

You don't need to be a star athlete to experience the rush of Olympic participation. At Canada Olympic Park, our sports simulators will give you the chance to try sports you've only dreamed of, like the luge or biathlon. Later, watch the pros in amazement as freestyle skiers and trampoline snowboard athletes demonstrate their aerial wizardry. In the Kids Village, enjoy a host of family oriented activities. Rock climbing, mini-golf and Olympic-themed crafts are just a few of the things offered to keep you in the Olympic spirit. On the Brasso Nissan Entertainment Stage, treat your family to magic shows and sing-alongs.

Fort Calgary

Step back in time at Fort Calgary, the original site of the N.W. Mounted Police post. In true Winterfest spirit, the fort hosts a variety of fun-filled events. Live entertainment, crafts, outdoor games, and even horse-drawn wagon tours will allow you to explore Calgary's history and have a blast doing it.

Alberta celebrates Family Day in the month of February. Why not join us with your family and have the time of your life at the Calgary Winterfest? It will be a unique holiday that the child in you will cherish forever.
