North Vancouver - British Columbia

Nestled between the Burrard Inlet and the coastal mountains, the city of North Vancouver is accessible from downtown Vancouver by two bridges, The Lions' Gate Bridge and the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing. This area of the lower mainland, while sometimes considered a suburb of Vancouver, actually has a significant industry and culture of its own.

On an economic level, North Vancouver is a popular spot for local and international film makers to shoot their films and productions and with these productions come major economic benefits for the city. When productions come to town, they provide employment opportunities for many local residents. On average, 90 percent of the crew for productions filmed in BC are staffed by local residents.

On an individual level, according to the 2001 census, North Vancouver has the highest level of fitness of any city in Canada. The wide number of public parks and hiking trails in North Vancouver may have influenced this statistic. This is not hard to believe when you hear that the city has over 40 public parks, many indoor and outdoor recreation centres, several bicycle-friendly trails, and even a skate park.

North Vancouver also highly promotes green living. In September 2006, the city became a member of the E3 Fleet Rating System for its green initiatives and achievements in fleet management and environmental practices. Also in 2006, Lonsdale Energy Corporation in North Vancouver was awarded the CDEA Municipal Energy Award for its leadership and work in promoting environmental sustainability. The city also enforces a law that fines motorists who leave their car idling for more than 3 minutes in a 1 hour period.

If you don't own a car, or want a greener commute to downtown Vancouver, there is the SeaBus that makes four crossings an hour across the Burrard Inlet between the Londsale Quay on North Shore (North and West Vancouver) and Waterfront Station in the City of Vancouver.
