Downtown Vancouver and Granville Street

Area around Granville Street and Robson Street
Vancouver BC

Vancouver's downtown core might be small compared with most modern metropolitan cities but it has a lot to offer. Small because of the surrounding neighbourhoods, downtown Vancouver is made up of the business district surrounding Burrard Street between Hastings Street and West Georgia Street.

Most of the cities shopping malls are just a few blocks from this area and include the Pacific Centre, Royal Centre, Sinclair Centre and Waterfront Centre Shops.

Canada Place and the Pan Pacific Hotel are located at the north end of downtown where the city meets the Burrard Inlet and Coal Harbour.

South of Waterfront Station, the downtown transportation hub, Granville Street leads towards and over False Creek. This part of Granville Street is home to one of the city's busiest shopping streets and the entertainment district.

The north end of Granville Street, between Waterfront Station (West Cordova Street) and Robson Street are entrances to shopping malls, large stores such as The Bay, Sears, Future Shop and Winners.

South of Robson Street to Nelson Street is the area known as the Entertainment District. Many bars, late night restaurants, theatres, cinemas and entertainment locations can be found all surrounded by a diverse collection of independent stores. During weekends this area of Granville Street becomes very lively.

South of Nelson Street to the Davie Street is the more seedy area of Granville Street. These two blocks are home to lots of adult entertainment stores. This area and further north up to Robson Street is a good location of younger people to look for the latest fashions, footwear and music.

Along Granville, around Davie Street, to the Granville Street Bridge are bars and hotels which range in quality and price. This is a good starting to begin exploring Granville Island, south of False Creek, Yaletown and the West End from.
