Sustainability in Quebec

Many companies in the province of Quebec working hard to reduce their carbon footprint; most notable is Bowater Forest Products of Canada, which has reduced its total greenhouse gas emissions from its Gatineau plant by twenty-nine percent, and the quantity of emissions per tonne of newspaper produced by thirty-one percent.

Plans are also underway to revamp Quebec City’s public transportation. Eight new electric buses, designed to easily traverse Old Quebec’s narrow streets, were launched at the beginning of June, 2008. The government has also committed $16.9 million to innovative public transit initiatives in Gatineau, Montreal and Quebec City.
