The subarctic climate of Churchill results in long and cold winders and mild summers. Churchill has much colder winters than most other locations at a 58 degrees north latitude due to the freezing of Hudson Bay which eliminates any maritime moderation of the weather. When the wind blows over the Hudson Bay or from the north, which it frequently does, it can cause a sometimes sudden and usually very large drop in overall temperature.
January average temperature is -26.7 °C (−16 °F)
July average temperature is 12 °C (54 °F)
