Dalnavert Museum

61 Carlton Street
Winnipeg MB

The objective of Dalnavert Museum is to foster an appreciation and an understanding of the late Victorian era in Winnipeg, through the preservation, exhibition and interpretation of the building and the museumís collection.

Dalnavert is one of the finest examples of Queen Anne Revival architecture, a designated national and provincial provincial historic site. It is the restored home of Sir Hugh John Macdonald, lawyer, Premier of Manitoba in 1900, later Police Magistrate for Winnipeg, and son of Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. A chronology of the house is available here. Like similar well-to-do family homes of the period, Dalnavert is opulently decorated and full of treasured objects.

Dalnavert is open for tourists throughout the year. A guided tour, provided by volunteers and MHS staff, provide a focus on Winnipegís early cultural and social life. During the winter there are many activities scheduled. There is a popular school program especially designed for children. Dalnavert also has a childrenís Birthday Party Program with a couple of fun party options, that are available year round.

Dalnavert is a popular tourist destination open for touring throughout the year. In December let your senses experience moments of a Victorian Christmas and perhaps rekindle memories of long ago. In the summer the garden plantings and green lawns create a pleasant oasis in the midst of downtown Winnipeg.
