Colours of Fall

By Nikki Lotz, Trail Canada

My neighbor refuses to comply with the fall norm of raking up the leaves. She claims that there is no rug more luxuriant than the one nature provides. I know this is a woman who belly dances for her pets, but I think she’s right! There are many places where you can enjoy fall colours, here are a few favourites.

If you are in Vancouver, you can take a horse and carriage ride through Stanley Park for great fall views, especially around Lost Lagoon. Join the Van Dusen Botanical Garden daily guided walks at 2pm where you can see Michaelmas daisies, autumn crocus and hydrangeas. Queen Elizabeth Park is located at the highest point in the city, giving visitors an unbeatable 360 degree view.

In Victoria, Butchart Gardens has a wonderful display of russet Japanese Maples, Arbutus and Copper Beech Trees. For a view of the Juan de Fuca Straight, visit Government House on Rockland Avenue.

Summer Over? Edmonton is Still Open!

By Arlie MacGregor, Trail Canada

There's a familiar saying in Alberta: "If you don't like the weather, wait an hour; it'll change." This is especially true in the later part of the year. One day you're in shorts and t-shirts, the next you're scrambling for long johns and snow boots. But whether it's autumn leaves or snowflakes falling at your feet, there's still plenty of action in Alberta's capital. We have quite a few ideas to add to your itinerary.

Destination: Stratford

Stratford, Ontario is more than just a theatre town. Much of Stratford’s tourist charm comes from its excellent selection of shopping centres, Mom and Pop stores and restaurants, and beautiful parks which are perfect for spending a relaxing afternoon in.

Stratford offers a variety of options for visitors. The first thing a tourist would notice driving into the city are the mini-malls, chain restaurants, and super-stores that litter the outer areas. Keep driving. Further into the city, Stratford also offers services with a more personal touch such as the Alexandra Spa located in a beautiful brick home on Erie Street. The central streets also host specialty stores such as the Amulet run by a mother-daughter jewellery-making duo, located at 71 Brunswick.

That's all for now!
