Iqaluit - Nunavut
The Inuktitut translation of Nunavut’s capital, Iqaluit, is "the place of many fish." This unique Canadian city is the fastest growing, with a population of 7,000.
The springtime is a good time to visit for dogsledding, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Visit in April to get a taste for local culture with Toonik Tyme, Nunavut’s biggest spring festival celebrating the return of spring with community feasts, Inuit games, ice-hockey, and the infamous “ice golf.” In the summer operators offer wildlife viewing boat tours and historical tours. Throughout the year you can buy world-renowned Inuit art in various galleries and shops.
