Travelocity votes Toonik Tyme top Insider Spot for 2007

Iqaluit – The online travel agency, Travelocity.ca, selected Iqaluit’s spring festival Toonik Tyme from 10,000 entries around North America as a Top Insider Spot in the 2007 Edition of Travelocity’s Local Secrets, Big Finds.

This list showcases hidden gems across the country that tourists often overlook but are where the locals always go.

“This list has been created by travelers for travelers, and we are proud to have selected the Toonik Tyme Festival as one of our big finds for 2007,” says Travelocity’s Editor-at-Large, Amy Ziff.

Nunavut Tourism’s CEO Dr. Paul Lewis says this award further supports the tourism potential of Nunavut’s capital, Iqaluit.

“Travelocity is one of the largest travel agencies in the world, so recognition like this on their site gives Toonik Tyme serious bragging rights. Iqaluit residents and Toonik Tyme volunteers should be proud,” says Lewis.

Toonik Tyme is Nunavut’s biggest spring festival and celebrates the return of spring with community feasts, Inuit games, ice-hockey, and the infamous “ice golf.”
